The comments of referees have been satisfactory taken into account in the new version of manuscript.

However, the writing of the manuscript is really not satisfying: sentences are often long and complex (up to 5 lines) and your paragraphs are not well balanced (some contain 3 lines while others contain 21 lines) and not enough phocusing on one idea.

Below I listed some example of changes that must be made but I could not fix all the problems.

Therefore, I strongly advice to re-read your manuscript carefully, with the help of colleagues from your organization, and improve your writing and clarify your ideas.

In his current form the manuscript does not fit to the level of requirements of Biogeoscience, which means that your manuscript will be rejected if substantial improvements are not made.

Some examples sampled in your abstract & introduction:
L19-22 this sentence is long and not clear. By pair site you mean that you’ll compare agricultural and natural sites at the same place. It doesn’t appear like that in your text. What kind of vegetation do the natural sites support? Specifying that is at least as important as specifying you work on three large biomes in Brazil. Your findings and their implications must be understood by everyone, not just by Brazilians.

L21 you suggest that your study focuses on pastures only whereas I believed you also study crops in CPS. Again you must be clearer.

L29-41 all your data are given for each soil layers though you’ve no message on soil depth. Either you express data for the whole profile, which will simplify your text, or you find an interesting message to include at the end of your abstract.

L48-72 Could you shorten this never-ending paragraph?

L73-77 This 3-lines paragraph does not stand alone. It must be connected to another paragraph or your idea must be expanded. Your statement “carbon gain with cultivation seems to be faster…” is really confusing. It is widely recognized that cultivation causes soil C loss, not gain.

L91-93 have you ever seen a paragraph of one sentence?
